Four Tips For Renting Your First Limo

Posted on

Renting a limo is a great way to get to and from a concert, wedding, or other special event. However, there are some intricacies to the rental process that you may not be familiar with if you have never rented a limo in the past. Here are four tips to help you navigate the limo rental process.

Get quotes from several companies.

Different limo rental companies have different pricing schemes; which one has the best rate in your area may depend on the venue you need transportation to, how many people are riding in your limo, and for how many hours you are renting your limo. Many companies offer quick quotes online, so you can get estimates quickly and compare them within an hour or two.

Ask about drinking restrictions.

One reason why people tend to rent limos is so that they can drink at the event and not worry about driving home. However, it is also customary among some groups of people to drink in the limo. If you plan on doing this, make sure you ask the limo company if it is their policy to allow drinking. In some areas, doing so is not permitted -- and there are also some individual limo companies that do not allow this.

Allow extra time.

You might think you only need the limo from 6:00 pm until 11:00 pm, but plans can change: someone could be late getting back to the limo, or you may not leave your place quite on time. To prevent calamities and extra charges at the last minute, allow yourself some extra time. Arrange to have the limo arrive at least 30 minutes before you really want to leave, and rent the limo for about a half hour later than you think you need to.

Ask friends for payment up-front.

If you will be splitting the cost of the limo rental with your friends, make sure you ask them to give you the money up-front. Otherwise, you may have to chase them down for payment later on. Account for a tip for the driver when you ask participants for cash. Tipping 20% is customary, but you can give more or less depending on the service you feel you have received.

If you follow all of the tips above, you will have an easier time renting your first limo -- and you'll have a good time in the process!
